Business Licenses

Do I need any license to start a business in Singapore?

Most Singapore businesses do not need a license to operate. However, some businesses require licenses/permits before commencing any operations in Singapore.

Three main types of licenses apply to Singapore businesses:

1) Compulsory Licenses

These licenses are required before the commencement of business operations. For example, a travel agency needs a travel agency license to operate.

2) Occupation Licenses

These licenses are required by working professionals like doctors, architects, accountants, and lawyers. The professional organizations in the respective fields grant such licenses. For example, a medical practitioner must register with SMC (Singapore Medical Council) to practice in his field.

3) Business Activity-Based Licenses

You need specific business licenses/permits to carry on specific business activities. For example, you need a liquor license from SPF (Singapore Police Force) to sell liquor.

Consult with our team to determine, if the license is required for your business.
