The company shareholders elect the director of a company. However, there are specific requirements for a person to qualify as the director of a company in Singapore.
- He/she must be a natural person and must not be a company or business entity.
- He/she must attain the age of majority (at least 18 years).
- Both ordinary residents (Singapore citizens, permanent residents, Employment Pass holders) and foreigners can become a director in a Singapore-incorporated company as long as there is at least one resident director in the company.
- A director must be physically and mentally healthy to carry out statutory duties.
