What is the meaning of the term ‘Resident Director’?

As per the Singapore Companies Act, every company that is incorporated in Singapore must have at least one resident director.

A resident director is a director that is an ordinarily resident in Singapore. It means a local director must either be a :

  • Singapore citizen
  • Singapore permanent resident
  • Employment Pass holder with a work pass to work in the concerned company
  • Dependent Pass holder with Letter of Consent, or
  • EntrePass holder.

To qualify as an ordinarily resident in Singapore, a director must also have a local address in Singapore.
